چکیده

Global rabbit production is currently estimated at more than 1 million tones per year, according to the FAO. The world’s largest producer is China with 315.000 tones in 2000 (FAO, 2001). One major problem in rabbit meat production is infectious diseases of the respiratory tract. Usually respiratory infections are due to an association of non-specific contributing causes with infectious agents. Important non-specific contributing factors are the concentration of toxic gases, especially ammonia, and the dust concentration. Further the concentration of airborne endotoxins seems to play an important role in the development of respiratory diseases. Chronic exposure to airborne endotoxins can compromise several defense mechanisms of the host (Deeb and DiGiacomo, 2000; Halloy et al., 2005). In this study airborne endotoxin concentrations, the number of total airborne aerobic bacteria and the number of airborne gram-negative bacteria were measured in 3 rabbit houses. Further the species composition of the isolated airborne gram-negative bacteria was studied.

Exposure of workers to airborne microorganisms in open-air swine houses.

This study quantified the levels of airborne microorganisms in six swine farms with more than 10,000 pigs in subtropical Taiwan. We evaluated breeding, growing, and finishing stalls, which were primarily open-air buildings, as well as partially enclosed farrowing and nursery piggeries. Airborne culturable bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, and fungi were placed on appropriate media by using an a...

Staphylococci as an Indicator for Bacterial Emissions from a Broiler House

Introduction The air of animal houses contains bioaerosols like viruses bacteria, fungi, endotoxins and allergens that present a health risk for humans and animals [1]. Airborne pathogen bacteria, fungi that cause allergies and endotoxins were detected in poultry houses [2]. The spreading of bioaerosol emissions from poultry houses is less understood and therefore it is difficult to estimate th...

Comparing the Effects of Deep and Surface Aeration Methods on Density and Type of Airborne Bactria and Fungi in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant

Background and purpose: Emission of bioaerosols from wastewater treatment plants is a potential hazard to human health. In this study aimed at investigating the effects of surface and deep aeration techniques on density and type of airborne bacteria and fungi in two municipal wastewater treatment plants. Materials and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was done in two wastewater t...

Airborne environmental endotoxin: a cross-validation of sampling and analysis techniques.

A standard method for measurement of airborne environmental endotoxin was developed and field tested in a fiberglass insulation-manufacturing facility. This method involved sampling with a capillary-pore membrane filter, extraction in buffer using a sonication bath, and analysis by the kinetic-Limulus assay with resistant-parallel-line estimation (KLARE). Cross-validation of the extraction and ...
